Porting Open-Source Code to VOS
A presentation by Richard Boylan of Stratus Engineering on how to port open-source code to OpenVOS
Open-source packages ported using the official VOS POSIX support.
This directory contains ports of popular open-source software packages that use the version of POSIX support included with VOS 14.3 and subsequent releases. VOS Release 14.3 through 14.7 require a Stratus Continuum system (HP PA-RISC processor), and VOS Release 15.0 and higher requires a Stratus V Series System (Intel Pentium4 processor). This version of POSIX is fully supported by Stratus. The packages in this subdirectory are not supported by Stratus.
Source code for "free" or open-source packages
This directory contains source code for packages that are offered by Stratus Technologies as VOS products and are released under a license that requires Stratus to make the source code available. The packages in this subdirectory are supported by Stratus when purchased directly from Stratus and installed from an official release tape. Stratus does not offer support for these packages when purchased from any other party, or when you download and build the source code yourself.
Note that the Stratus GNU C++ and GNU Tools (aka "GNU Tools") product, version 2.0 or later, contains ports of many of the packages found in this subtree. The versions of these commands supplied with GNU Tools are newer than the copies found on this page. For this reason, if you have installed GNU Tools, you should not use the copies found here, and should delete any local copies you have made of these tools, in favor of the versions found in GNU Tools.
VOS Alpha-level POSIX support and packages ported using it.
This directory contains headers and object files that implement a free, unsupported version ("alpha level") POSIX support for VOS. This version will run on VOS 12 and higher, and on any of the following hardware architectures (Motorola 68000, Intel i860, HP PA-RISC 7100, HP PA-RISC 8xxx). It is not supported on the Pentium4 architecture. This subdirectory also contains ports of popular open-source software packages which use the alpha-level POSIX support. This version of POSIX support is incomplete and is missing some basic functions (for example, fork, wait, waitpid, dup, dup2).
